ABSTRACT
The ability to critically evaluate the research, as well as others, is an important research skill. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of how to develop a critique when undertaking a mixed methods research project. It explains the value of critical analysis to the mixed methods researcher alongside an introduction to the process of critical evaluation in mixed methods research. The chapter outlines the established quantitative and qualitative evaluative terminology and how it can be applied, before a full discussion of mixed methods-specific terminology that can be used in a critique. Critically evaluating mixed methods research is complicated by utilising multiple research components, as well as the different philosophical considerations of the quantitative and qualitative strategies. When conducting a mixed methods research project one should evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each component in turn, applying the strategy-specific terminology.
