ABSTRACT

This chapter provides easy-to-follow guidance on how to conduct a basic range of quantitative and qualitative data analyses, which can be used in conjunction with the data collection methods. It explores various ways in which one can analyse the quantitative data and produce the quantitative inferences. Level of measurement, which refers to ‘the relationship between what is being measured and the numbers that represent what is being measured’, is vital to understand when devising and carrying out the quantitative data collection and analysis. Measures of central tendency are a trio of statistical tests that provide ways of describing the typical or central value in the distribution of values, where the ‘distribution of values’ is ‘a term used to refer to the entire data relating to a variable’. Correlations allow to deal with the different levels of measurement, namely ordinal and scale level data.
