ABSTRACT

During the first decade of the 21st century, the healthcare system in Turkey has undergone an impressive transformation from being an underachiever relative to its level of income and socio-economic development to one that is often quoted in international healthcare fora as an example of what other countries should be aspiring to achieve as a result of genuine commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality care for all. Yet the resultant improvement in health outcomes in Turkey could improve even further with equally steadfast focus on getting better value for money and investment in health promotion and disease prevention.
