ABSTRACT

This chapter describes Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), with a specific focus on Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). When outlining MTSS, the authors address historical components that have influenced the development of MTSS, as well as the operating characteristics of this approach. Next, in this chapter, the authors introduce Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and implementing MTSS within such a framework, including the school counselor’s role in both frameworks.
