ABSTRACT

The Commonwealth Secretariat has got to work on equipping countries with the regulations and machinery they need to build their trading relationships with people. The Commonwealth's combined rainforest canopy is the second largest in the world after Brazil. Uniting the Commonwealth in a course of action to prevent this outcome is a major incentive for the International Development Secretary immediately to reshape the overseas aid budget. The new Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, inherits a system which has encouraged employers to tap into an unrestricted pool of cheap labour from the European Union. The Home Secretary's immigration policy must therefore have as its goal a low cap on the number of new arrivals, to be achieved through a new points-based system. Such a system should afford Britain the chance to tip the scales in favour of those Commonwealth citizens who have always supported our country through its struggles.
