ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the factors to reduce crime risk for the university campus community. Proactive police patrol campus: police officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Residence hall security: all residence halls are equipped with access control systems which allow entry for authorized individuals only. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design: the Campus Crime Prevention Unit routinely conducts safety and security surveys on campus and makes recommendations for alterations in landscaping, physical security, and lighting. Safety and Security Literature: a variety of safety and security literature is available through the Department of Public Safety. Safety Escorts: safety escorts are offered to students, faculty, and staff, 7 days per week, Shuttle Services and Education and Awareness Programs. The chapter provides the programs are available to the campus community: women's self-defense classes, campus watch, safety and security presentations, new student orientation, operation street smart and participation in national campus safety month.
