ABSTRACT

Culture is what gives a society, a nation, or a community its identity. Every society makes an effort to preserve its particular cultural heritage by ensuring that it is passed from one generation to the next. A culture of security has to become an integral part of everything that is done, and it is crucial that the security culture keep pace with any threats. A company, organization, or community must make a conscious effort to invest in a security culture if it is to become sustainable, and it has to be more than a one-time event with its own life cycle. A culture of good security practices combining first-, second-, and third-generation crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), followed by Neighborhood Watch and community policing, will become effective as part of developing an impressive culture of security. Utilizing CPTED strategies will reduce the incidence of crime as well as the fear of crime.
