ABSTRACT

In most industrial site designs, the most important issue is the safety of those who will be working or traveling to the sites. This chapter describes some crime prevention through environmental design strategies to the security practitioners and law enforcement professionals for managing the risk in the industrial sites. After work hours, industrial areas are, for the most part, badly illuminated, seldom under any type of surveillance, and virtually deserted, which in itself can be a problem. Security practitioners and law enforcement professionals can provide access to both the front and back of the site so that the grounds can be patrolled. They can separate visitor parking from employee parking and shipping and receiving areas. Security practitioners and law enforcement professionals can design the reception areas to have a view of parking areas, especially the visitor's parking.
