ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a number of opportunities and challenges related to food and its intersection with tourism in Iran, while highlights some issues that have already been raised by tourists yet not addressed by scholars nor the liable people or organizations in the Iranian context. It explains some grounds for future research that helps to reconcile at least some of the issues with regard to food in Iranian tourism. Food has generally been viewed in the Iranian tourism industry as an 'incidental' part of travel, and its significance in influencing the experience of the tourist, either positively or negatively, has been ignored to date. Iranian tourism can take advantage of the many ethnic and local foods of Iran, many of which can address different dietary practices, while capitalizing on its rich and rather unique hospitality culture and traditions especially in the international market.
