ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the specific field of cultural heritage management. This is a crucial area for Iran, both with respect to socio-cultural and economic development and for the commodification of cultural heritage for tourism. The chapter analyzes some of the quality issues in cultural attractions, highlights the concept of quality within the practice of cultural heritage management itself, as well as the importance of the proactive and consistent participation of local communities in the practices of territorial governance. It focuses on the different dimensions related to the management of cultural heritage management in Iran, taking into account the historical, social, political and economic aspects as well as the theoretical, technical strategic traits. A specific model of cultural heritage management could support the national cultural diplomacy agenda, and the alliance between cultural heritage management, international tourism and cultural diplomacy would be a vehicle for Iran to receive a positive international recognition.
