ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the tentative conclusions based on the points emphasized in the other chapters and on own impressions of education in China. The first and foremost conclusion which is supported by the observations of all members of people delegation is the importance attached to education. A second conclusion drawn from people observations and the statements made by their hosts is that Chinese educational policy, like that of the United States, is not always moving in one direction but includes reversals from time to time. A third conclusion is that China places high priority on political education. A fourth conclusion is that China is making a strong effort to integrate education for work and for citizenship. A fifth conclusion the authors drew was that the Chinese leaders recognize the great importance of the non-school learning environment.
