ABSTRACT

A Malaysian government agency, the Majlis Amanah Rakyat, was formed on March 1, 1966 under the National and Rural Development Ministry. MARA is responsible for endorsing, stimulating, enabling and undertaking economic, educational and social development with particular interest in rural areas for the Bumiputeras. The Blueprint did not however, address specifically the need for elite Malay boarding schools like Maktab Rendah Sains MARA or MARA Junior Science College. MARA provides entrepreneurship courses, vocational training and consultancy services for Bumiputera entrepreneurs. The Blueprint offers a vision of the educational system and student aspirations that Malaysia both needs and deserves. The Malaysia Education Blueprint's emphasis on holistically shaping students is in line with the human capital agenda. This chapter discusses the selected tools of Critical Discourse Analysis to unpack a policy document of an educational transformation initiative for MARA Junior Science Colleges.
