ABSTRACT
Improvements in terminology management systems have opened opportunities for terminology resources to be used by a wider range of end users, and leveraged in a diverse range of natural language processing applications that are essential for global communications. This chapter focuses on terminology resources as they are used to enhance content production processes such as writing and translation, with some comments on other potential uses for commercial purposes such as search optimisation. It describes two of the main ones: authoring and translation. The chapter highlights their automated forms: computer-assisted translation and controlled authoring. It also describes some essential features of a terminology management system that can develop multi-purpose terminology resources required by global companies and organisations. The chapter shown as examples were created in a terminology management system called TermWeb. All terminology standards and best practices recognise some fundamental principles, three of which are briefly described: concept orientation, term autonomy, and data elementarily.
