ABSTRACT

If museums are to survive the major irreversible social changes brought on by technological advances, globalization, political unrest, and shifting public expectations, we will need to radically evolve our museum practices over the coming years. And we will need to examine outdated assumptions about museum exhibition ‘best practices’ in design, content development, creation, and management. This chapter elaborates upon potential approaches and strategies for revolutionizing museum exhibition design methods and processes, and includes examples of this work in several museums.
