ABSTRACT

Exhibition making in the twenty-first century is facing great swathes of change, as the tastes of audiences rapidly evolve across the globe. The advent of technology is one of the main contributing factors to this transformation, the channels through which we are exposed to art continue to grow, and the world has become much smaller and more interconnected than ever before. Contemporary art practices are engaging with these innovations, challenging curators and those at the helm of exhibition spaces. The three-day conference ultimately resulted in the collaborative promulgation of the 'Top 20 Principles for The Future of Museum and Gallery Design', a set of ideals that future museum and gallery design should aim to accomplish and realise. The principles include notions of inclusiveness, collaboration, social interaction, localisation, experimentation, and connectivity among many others.
