ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is framed using both the framework of intersectionality and the concept of positive marginality. It paints a portrait of abjection and pain in mapping out queer issues and agendas, and shows the strength and resiliency of queer communities. The book focuses squarely on anti-racism efforts as crucial parts of any queer agenda. It also focuses on systemic violence, and presents an excerpted transcript from the “After Pulse”. The book analyzes the relationship between sex work and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities. It concentrates on immigration as an issue central to the unfinished queer agenda. The book provides information on LGBTQ queer youth. It utilizes a case study of Guyana to highlight how heteronormative stereotypes, such as what the Guyanese call the Anti-Man Aesthetic, continue to systematically oppress LGBTQ individuals.
