ABSTRACT

This chapter evaluates the efforts of Higher Education commission (HEC) Pakistan to develop the research writing skills of faculty working at Pakistan’s higher education institutes (HEI). Since 80% of the research worldwide is published in the English language, it has become increasingly essential for Pakistan’s HEI faculty to be proficient in not only the English language but also research writing in English. HEC has, for this purpose, initiated capacity-building programs, workshops and training under the aegis of English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR). Drawing on the extant literature on Pakistani higher education policy, this paper evaluates the efficacy of the ELTR, ultimately forwarding recommendations to be acted upon in order for Pakistani graduate students and faculty to be able to actively and effectively participate in global knowledge production.
