ABSTRACT
Is Thailand a secular state or a religious state? Has the Thai state experienced a process of secularisation? Is the concept of “the secular” even relevant in Thailand, given its Western origins? This chapter engages with these questions, providing a detailed discussion of various aspects of the relationship between state and religion with a particular focus on the Sangha (Buddhist order of monks).
