ABSTRACT

The optomechanical constraint equations control changes to the position, orientation, and size of the image of an optical system. The changes to the image are referenced to the original position, orientation, and size of the image based upon the optical designer’s physical prescription for the optics. Changes in these image properties may be caused by manufacturing tolerances, elastic structural deformations, or changes in the operating temperature for the system acting either independently or collectively. These equations may be used by the optomechanical engineer to assure acceptable optical performance in the as-built configuration and in a variety of service environments.
