ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL) mechanism and a general setup and discusses the effects of laser ablation parameters with a comprehensive literature search. It reviews the physical and chemical properties of produced silicon Nano crystals (SiNCs) and the effect of post treatment methods. The PLAL mechanism was shown to be a suitable method for SiNCs generation. The research on SiNCs has been considerably attractive for the scientist due to the SiNCs' significant size-dependent optical properties, and their potential for stimulated emission. A number of chemical and physical methods were developed for the production of SiNCs. Chemical methods were favourable due to their potential for controlling both the particle size and surface properties. The chapter concludes with the applications of SiNCs produced with the PLAL mechanism. Reductive SiNCs shows its possible applications in pollution remediation on heavy metal ions and in wastewater or soil which are coming from industrial waste, and these are toxic to bacteria, plants, and humans.
