ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces about the motivation and sporadic research of metastable structure of Si and the synthesis process that is based on laser ablation in liquid (LAL) and its growth mechanism upon LAL—the basic physical processes involved in the metastable zinc blende structure of SiNCs synthesis and Nano cubes fabrication upon LAL. It produces a series of detailed properties characterization of the micro- and Nano cubes and the NCs of Si with zinc blende structure using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), associated energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV absorption spectroscopy, PL measurements, and Raman spectroscopy. The chapter performs annealing treatment studies of the Si zinc blende structure to probe the thermal stability of this metastable phase and the relationship between the metastable structure and PL in the SiNCs with zinc blende structure. It concludes with further research and its potential applications along with the challenges that remain in the field.
