ABSTRACT

84An important objective of online quizzing in higher education is to prepare students for upcoming summative tests. Online quizzes serve as moments of practice in acquiring knowledge and skills. In order to increase their participation rates in these online quizzes, students may receive an incentive of extra grade points if they pass. Anecdotal reports (Hambelton, 2002; Kibble, 2007) indicate that fraudulent student behavior such as sharing answers on social media does occur, as students try to game the system. However, no empirical evidence has yet been provided regarding the extent of the impact of this behavior.
