ABSTRACT

Firearms-related evidence encompasses a variety of components including but not limited to firearms, fired ammunition components and unfired ammunition. The documentation of these evidentiary items is crucial and relies heavily on photography to document the elements of the weapon and/or ammunition. Firearms specifically have a number of features that need to be taken into consideration and evaluated during the course of the investigation. Mishandling firearms-related evidence could potentially alter or destroy what could be a crucial piece of evidence or fail to collect something due to this lack of understanding.
