ABSTRACT

The composite may be defined as a macro-scale combined assembly of two or more components, having properties that none of the constituents possesses individually. The physical testing of a composite material investigates the effect of physical phenomena on the performance properties of the material. Morphology is the term used for the study of the structure or shape of a part. In the case of composite materials, surface morphology comprises high resolution 3D imaging by use of sophisticated microscopes. Prepreg is a fibrous reinforcement impregnated with a polymeric matrix system, generally in the form of a sheet, tape, or tow. The standard test method ASTM D3039/3039M is used to determine the in-plane tensile properties of polymer matrix composite materials. Material density is one of the fundamental physical properties that may be used to characterize the sandwich core materials, along with other properties.
