ABSTRACT

Life care plans are most often prepared by rehabilitation professionals with specific training in life care planning who are identified as life care planners. In Canada, life care planners can come from a variety of health care specialties. The Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP) and Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP) designations are the mark of competent, ethical, consultative professionals who go the extra mile, demonstrating their deep commitment to the field of life care planning. The life care planning training programs ensure life care planners will be qualified and knowledgeable of the methodologies, standards of care, ethical considerations, and best practices for the profession. In Canada, as in the United States, there are two main categories in which a life care plan would be requested. They are, catastrophic life care plans and non-catastrophic life care plans. Canada and the United States are similar in that the legal system is predominantly based on common law.
