ABSTRACT

Kierkegaard i vår tid was written by poet, author, and playwright Ingmar Simonsson and published in 2002 by Themis Förlag. As Simonsson notes in the Introduction, his primary aim is to articulate Kierkegaard's contemporary relevance through a presentation of the poet-philosopher's writings for the Swedish reader who is interested in Kierkegaard, but who may nevertheless be intimidated by the Dane's language and ideas. Furthermore, in the service of his general aim Simonsson places Kierkegaard into dialogue with a host of more recent thinkers hailing from a variety of academic disciplines. One of the more interesting and valuable aspects of the book is the discussion Simonsson affords to Kierkegaard's use of pseudonyms. In addition, Simonsson claims that Kierkegaard's method of pseudonymity carries particular significance with respect to the way in which Kierkegaard's authors challenge the reader to become a concrete existing individual in defiance of senseless conformity to the crowd.
