ABSTRACT

In October 1989 the Nottinghamshire Advisory and Inspection Service presented a report to the Education Committee entitled 'Education and Attitudes'. The report was based on work carried out in Nottinghamshire schools between June 1988 and May 1989 and stemmed from the Education Committee's interest in multi-cultural education, equal opportunities and pastoral care in schools. This chapter provides a summary analysis of the research undertaken and an Action Checklist for Nottinghamshire schools. This Checklist is firmly rooted in the summary analysis and seeks to encourage schools to address bullying as a whole school issue. Both parts appear in the form in which they appeared in the Members' Panel's final report. In order to provide further support, the members of the Inspection Team involved with the preparation and publication of the original report have been involved in supporting in-service training events organised by schools and families of schools.
