ABSTRACT

The Special Needs Section at Salisbury College of Technology provides Further Education for students between 16 and 19 years of age, and incorporates two full-time courses: Vocational Preparation Studies for students with moderate learning difficulties and Continuing Education for students with severe learning difficulties. Young people with moderate learning difficulties have access to College courses and workshop facilities where they may integrate with mainstream students. They also have a distinctive study base located on the College campus which not only provides a supportive environment for those in need of extra help, but also gives students ownership of a particular College facility, and a focus for social activities and meetings. Staff who are involved in teaching students with Special Education Needs have, where necessary, the support of a Care Assistant, and the work is co-ordinated by the Tutor/Organiser for Special Needs.
