ABSTRACT
This chapter commences by emphasizing the importance of equality and freedom from discrimination regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity [SOGI] or because they are intersex, and how this extends into the research domain. It provides a summary of commonly used definitions, terminology and acronyms. It then provides a brief overview of the current and historical legal issues, before outlining some of the pertinent topics that may and are currently being researched, including: the social issues of bullying, health disparities and gender issues.
