ABSTRACT

Interns will be confronted with themes and presenting problems that can blur the boundaries between the intern’s issues and issues that belong to the clients. In helping the intern to be aware of these possible “interface” issues, the supervisor needs to be aware of the therapist’s own story. Bron was challenged by the continuous introduction of new content, some of which revealed past trauma. He grew to be patient with the clients’ breakdowns, and their times of breakthroughs, and was able to see the bigger picture of how therapy is a process over time, albeit a bumpy one. Matt was a medical professional while Emily worked at home educating their three children, ranging in ages from toddler to preteen. The couple had previously sought therapy services from a faith-based organization in which they both reported feeling shamed and blamed.
