The conclusion discusses key fault lines and tensions in agricultural sustainability discourses. First, building on the analyses presented in the preceding chapters, seven divergences in contemporary discourses on agricultural sustainability are identified: technology, social innovation, experts, democratization, markets, nature, and the extent of change. Second, the effects of governance and institutionalization on sustainability discourses and their enactment are examined. Current governance processes are shown to have a moderating effect on sustainability transitions.
