ABSTRACT

The illegitimate son of Enrique of Trastámara, Fadrique was appointed to the Admiralty of Castile by his father. He married an illegitimate daughter of King Fernando I of Portugal and received the title of Count-Duke of Benavente. He attempted to play an important role in Castilian affairs of the last decades of the fourteenth century, but in the long run his efforts failed. As a result of unsuccessful political machinations, he was deprived of his title in 1394.
