ABSTRACT

A review of the literature on the use of singing as a therapeutic intervention in music therapy sessions with adults in palliative care, oncology, and bereavement settings was completed. Seven data bases were searched and 23 studies were included out of a total 657 papers. Results indicated that although case examples and smaller studies provided insight and information to the topic, there was a lack of randomized control trials and theoretical frameworks. The chapter begins with a brief overview of the music therapy literature and concludes with thoughts for future research and clinical implications.
