ABSTRACT

Multiculturalism entails the promotion of cultural understanding through acknowledging and respecting diverse cultural expressions. This chapter explores how singing multicultural songs contributes to cultural understanding. Through analyzing student and teacher interview results from the AIRS Quad-Cultural Study on Singing and Cultural Understanding (2012) and other studies, findings indicate that singing multicultural songs results in an increase in knowledge about cultures and pedagogical processes, leading to increased self-confidence among students and teachers.
