ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the psychosocial impact of cancer on patients, carers, relatives, and staff and also the psychobiological effects of stress, depression, and anxiety on immune function and cancer outcomes. It considers how music-based interventions, involving singing, are providing support for people affected by cancer, and the psychosocial and psychobiological research into the impact of these interventions. It also explores some of the key challenges in designing and researching singing interventions in cancer care and reviews some new opportunities that are being presented through global policy and interdisciplinary research developments.
