Introduction

This chapter introduces the topic of singing and education. Ideas are introduced on the role of singing in education. The transmission of singing is explored through various paths on a continuum from informal, semi-formal, nonformal, and formal education. Learning models of singing are introduced and discussed in the context of the chapters that comprise the entire volume. The rationale for the three sections of the volume is explained and the variety of approaches by different writers of the volume highlighted.
