ABSTRACT

With data gathered from 545 sources in the literature (2000–2017), this chapter provides a detailed snapshot of choral pedagogies. Broadly interpreted, the findings include technical aspects of choral teaching, perspectives on choral management, direction, production, and social/human dimensions of choirs. The literature of this era emerges against a backdrop of profound social, demographic, technological, and cultural change which provides an index of the values and innovations within the choral community. The findings are grouped into five broad categories, which emerged through qualitative analysis of their contents: (I) Demographics, (II) Preparation and Administration, (III) Technique and Interpretation, (IV) Technology and Innovation, and (V) Health/Well-Being.
