Using Singing and Songs to Learn and to Teach

This chapter introduces the third part of the volume, which focuses on how singing and songs can support learning and teaching. After briefly reviewing how singing can communicate emotional information as well as transmit linguistic, cultural, and historical information, the chapter then focuses on how listening to songs and singing can support learning in other areas. A proposed feed-forward framework for how singing may support learning in other subjects is outlined, followed by a short description of each of the chapters in this part.
