ABSTRACT

As the sole academic bioethics department in Singapore, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics (CbmE) at the National University of Singapore builds bioethics capacity across the nation by educating undergraduate medical students, postgraduate students in medical and bioethics specialties, as well as practising healthcare professionals. This chapter will begin by outlining the early history of the CBmE, founded by Professor Alastair V. Campbell, and the key factors that drive its educational mission. It will discuss the significance, evolution, and challenges of bioethics and professionalism education in the context of technological advances, commercialization of medical practices, and interdisciplinary pedagogical approaches.
