ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book illuminates a new migration landscape with migration cases from a wide variety of Chinese societies. It focuses on China as one prominent site for exploring different manifestations of state–diaspora dynamics. The book describes new conceptual analysis of new Chinese migrations and migration-governance on experiences from China and its linkages to Chinese diasporas, which may provide references for studies of other migrant groups and sending countries. It provides pointers for prospective research agenda concerning overseas Chinese studies in particular and Asian migration studies in general. Diaspora politics and the formation of diaspora institutions has enhanced the practices of transborder governance and extraterritorial power. Asia, a region producing the most international migrants and commanding a wide variety of forms and pathways of cross-border mobility, is a hot bed for the debates of migration politics and governance.
