ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the concept of human sensori-motor activity (HMA) in three aspects: structure, control and learning. It describes selected concepts and methods of modelling. The chapter summarizes the results of modelling HMA by applying different models. Modelling and simulating HMA as well as the structure of motor skills is an interdisciplinary enterprise that has to consider the different perspectives mentioned in the introduction. First, motor activities result in movements that can be observed from the outside perspective. Second, the process of motor control and motor learning can be modeled using computational models. The main aim of motor learning is to gain control over the system. Models of skill structure can be classified into qualitative and quantitative models. Classifying motor skills requires assigning a specific motor activity to distinct classes according to certain assignment rules. Classification models can be simple or complex as well as implicit or explicit.
