ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the merger of corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies of corporations embedded in emerging economies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the pathways to reach sustainable development. The current state of multinational corporations (MNCs) strategies for CSR in emerging economies will be analyzed to infer on the outcomes of CSR activities of firms in emerging economies. Results show that CSR efforts of MNCs vary based on the characteristics of the market and on the size of the subsidiary. One interesting theme that was reiterated throughout the findings is the need for governmental intervention to increase the scope and impact of MNCs’ CSR activities.
