ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance of the holding weekly meeting. A weekly meeting is significant in supporting a beginning teacher to make sense of the range of learning experiences to which they have been exposed over the period of a week. In this way, it is distinct from a lesson debrief, which places a magnifying glass on why a beginning teacher chose specific objectives/pedagogies/strategies with a specific group of pupils. The manner in which mentor conduct meetings is affected by both external drivers, such as policy directions, frameworks for working or professional requirements, and internal drivers, such as how their school structures learning, other professional responsibilities, or initial teacher education partnership arrangements. It is also affected by both their own and the beginning teacher's personality and their current stage of development.
