ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the issue of white masculinity as an idea, a concept and a critical and theoretical tool as it has developed within the fields of critical studies on men and masculinities (CSMM) and critical whiteness studies (CWS), sometimes separately and sometimes in tandem. This is done by following the simultaneous development of CSMM and CWS and by accounting for a wide range of studies on white men in both colonial and postcolonial, Western and non-Western settings, as well as by highlighting the current surge of white male movements in the form of the far right.
