ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses mainly on dayizhi, but it really provides deep insights into Chinese cultural policies. While additional discussion of non-dayizhi heritage would provide a more complete understanding of Chinese cultural policies, other sectors should also be investigated, in the heritage field and in the arts in general. However, a few comments are worthwhile at the end of the experience, from a foreigner – in the double sense of not being a member of the heritage administration, and of being non-Chinese. A sort of "life cycle" emerged from the analysis: while the focus on large archaeological sites initially developed as discourse within the community of heritage professionals, and with an articulated story up to the 12th Five Year Plan.
