ABSTRACT

Career counseling is grounded in and emanates from ethical and legal guidelines, along with principles, codes, and statutes that govern and strengthen the work of career counselors, career facilitators, and other professionals working in career development. Two important guides for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes a career counselor must embody are the National Career Development Association’s (NCDA, 2015) Ethical Standards and the Multicultural Counseling Competencies developed by Arredondo et al. (1996). Counselors-in-training, career counselors, and career development workers must use and apply these along with other key field and societal requirements as well as the research literature as an ongoing means to understand and stay up-to-date on the world of work and life today in a constantly evolving economy where people of diverse cultural backgrounds need assistance.
