ABSTRACT

This chapter is the conclusion to the book Organizational Behaviour and the Physical Environment and summarizes the key themes for the book. In it, the editors of this volume review the major issues raised by the authors of the volume chapters and conclude with some thoughts on how the physical environment of work might be managed more effectively. Issues of particular importance include the need to manage office noise as well as privacy and distractions. The authors stress that new rules of behaviour in today’s office settings necessitate new approaches to management and work design and, ultimately, an acceptance of new norms of behaviour by employees.
