ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Asian American men’s health by presenting a conceptual framework, the Racial–Cultural Framework (RCF) and identifies future research, practice, and policies. It provides the Asian Americans refer to people of East, Southeast, and South Asian descent living in the United States. The chapter reviews studies that classify Pacific Islanders together with Asian Americans and explores the health to refer broadly to people’s physical health, mental health, and health behaviors. It argues that Asian American men’s racial, cultural, and gender-related experiences should guide health professionals’ work on Asian American men’s health. The chapter shows that the RCF can be used to advance innovative research questions, interventions, and policies to reduce Asian American men’s health disparities. Systemic inequalities and oppression negatively impact Asian American men’s health. Endorsement of certain masculine norms has been tied to several health outcomes for Asian American men.
