ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on work/family issues that are relevant to the aging of the population. As the population ages, the workforce itself is also aging, making it important to explore work/family issues across the lifespan. Thus, this chapter examines how work–family conflict levels may change with age/life-stage. A review of the literature also suggests older and younger workers differ both in the priorities they assign to work and family, as well as in their willingness to engage in coping behaviors to help balance the two domains. In addition, interventions that organizations can undertake for work–family issues for older workers are also discussed.
