ABSTRACT

This chapter reinforces that not only is urgent legislation needed to protect people and in particular adolescents, but also more education and carefully- developed actions against cyberbullying. A necessity to address the many problems caused by cyberbullying is to solve the issue of non-reporting by cyberbullying victims. As noted, only a minority of victims reports the incident(s), and cyberbullying is the least frequent form of bullying reported. The chapter discusses some possible reasons for this non-reporting by cyberbullying victims, and emphasizes the urgent need for educating people and society at large about the severity of the various forms of cyberbullying. There are many resources available for the prevention of cyberbullying and suicide. Significant efforts must be made to ensure that bullies, victims and bystanders become more aware of these available resources and share them via the Internet just as easily as cyberbullies share scathing and hurtful words across the vast network.
